How I got into dentistry by Dr Hiten Joshi

Many members of my extended family are pharmacists, optometrists and dentists. There definitely seems to be a family trend here!

When I was 17, it was time to look at career choices and my university application. I considered dentistry as I was always interested in human biology, I like working with my hands and I enjoyed working with people. And so I asked my older sister about it. She was studying dentistry at the time and she offered some good advice: “Don’t study study dentistry just because I am, and don’t not study it because I am.”  This was helpful as it gave me the freedom to choose whatever I wanted to do.

If you are thinking of a career in dentistry I would definitely recommend it. It has its challenges, like many professions, but it is very rewarding too. It offers financial security; and it is a great way to serve patients, improve their oral health and boost confidence in their smile. This can be life changing! If you are thinking about studying dentistry feel free to ask me any questions you may have and I’ll be happy to share my experiences.
